Vol Navy Boaters' Association

Seeking Artists . . .

We are a Knoxville-based note card company looking for individuals with artistic ability who enjoy creating clever drawings in their spare time. This is an opportunity to earn some extra cash and gain some additional exposure in a relaxed, enjoyable way.

At VolidayGreetings.com, we offer distinctive note cards featuring whimsy Kokopelli designs created by talented regional Artists. The designs on the outside say something about the sender's interests. The "Verses of Life" they write on the inside say much more about what's going on in their life.

Here's how it works:

Artists create designs featuring Kokopelli depicted in action related to sports, recreation, hobbies, leisure, nature, pets/animals or occupations. Each Artist is encouraged to establish their own particular style, but . . .

emphasis is placed on keeping the designs relatively simple (more cartoon-like, rather than highly complex paintings).

Ideally, the Artist should not feel the need to spend days or weeks creating each design, nor should they feel intense pressure to meet a deadline. Rather, they should enjoy creating many different designs whenever they feel inspired. To construct an Artist's Showcase at our web site however, we like to have at least 6 different designs approved.

At VolidayGreetings.com we handle the costs and effort involved in printing the note cards and marketing them via the Internet and through a small number of retail establishments, like the Knoxville Visitor's Center. Then, on a quarterly basis, we cut a check to each Artist for 50% of all profit realized from the sale of all note cards with their designs.

Where does the word VOLiday come from?

Derived from the word Holiday, VOLiday is a word we created especially for the name of our company. The first 3 letters V-O-L refer to the "Verses of Life" that senders write on the inside of each card before it is sent.

Unlike traditional greeting cards which contain flowery sentiments written by someone in a corporate office and are only sent on certain holidays, VOLiday Greeting Cards are meant to be sent on any day of the year for any reason.

The designs on the outside of our cards say something about the sender's interests. The Verses of Life they write on the inside say much more about what's going on in their life.

What does the image in your LOGO represent?

The back side of each note card bears our distinctive logo featuring the joyful image of Kokopelli playing his magical flute.

Distinguished by his hunch-back, festive crest & dancing pose, Kokopelli is a widely recognizable Native American figure well-preserved throughout the Southwest in ancient rock carvings and paintings. To some, he is known as a magician. To most, he is known as a traveling storyteller who promotes goodness and harmony wherever he goes.

In the context of our note cards, Kokopelli embodies both of these roles as he passes from one human hand to another delivering magic through the joy of hand written Verses of Life shared among friends.

Why do I receive a SEVENTH CARD with every set I order?

Every set includes six matching cards with envelopes plus a seventh "bonus" card hand selected at random for our entire collection. Since we like to remind everyone to "Make every day a Happy VOLiday" and there are 7 days in a whole week, we like to bundle our cards in sets of seven. :-)

Each folded card measures 5.5" x 4.25" with plenty of blank space to compose your own Verses of Life.

Keep an ample supply of VOLiday Greeting Cards for yourself and order more to give as gifts. Send VOLiday Greetings to everyone you care about. Make every day a Happy VOLiday!

Can I purchase your cards at any RETAIL OUTLETS?

Our principal methods for distribution are via our website and through our regular customers. However, our cards can be found at a limited number of retail establishments. Usually, these establishments are identified by our contributing Artists.

Where do the DESIGNS on your cards come from?

All of the designs featured on our note cards are original designs created especially for VOLiday Greetings by regional Artists throughout the country. Each is subject to copyright protection.

Can I submit MY DESIGNS for consideration?

Certainly. We welcome opportunities to collaborate with Artists. If you are an Artist interested in submitting a design for consideration, please send us an e-mail inquiry to request additional information about our potential collaboration.

If I choose to write a CHECK, who do I make it payable to?

If you choose to pay for your order by check, please make your check payable to:

    VOLiday Greetings
    P.O. Box 2331
    Knoxville, TN 37901

What STYLES of designs do you accept?

We are currently only accepting comic style designs.

How are DECISIONS made pertaining to which designs to accept?

Because we underwrite the costs associated with printing & marketing each of the designs in our collection, it is impossible to accept all of the quality artwork submitted for consideration.

Designs are selected (or not selected) based on several considerations including, (but not limited to) the specific theme depicted, originality, creativity, simplicity, cleverness, humor, and technical quality. The most consideration is given to designs that would appear to have the greatest popular appeal.

What SIZE should the original artwork be?

The main thing to consider is the "aspect ratio" - the relationship between the height & width of the image. Since the face of our note cards measures 5.5" x 4.25", then that size (or twice that size - 11" x 8.5") will work just fine.

What FORMAT should digital images of original artwork be in?

Digital images of original artwork should be in high resolution (300dpi). Preferred file formats include: .tif, .bmp, .eps, and .psd. If necessary high resolution images of the following formats are also acceptable: .jpg, .gif, .png

    How are COPYRIGHTS handled?

Collaborating Artists sign a Standard Agreement Form in which they warrant that the artwork they submit does not violate any copyright, trademark, right of privacy, or any other right of any third party.

The Agreement grants VOLiday Greetings a nonexclusive perpetual license to print, market & ship products using their designs, but the Artist always maintains ownership of their copyrights. The Artists' name is printed on the back of each card.

How (and when) will I get PAID?

Artists share in 50% of the profits generated through the sales of their designs on a quarterly basis after production costs for each edition are recovered.

Relatively small quantities of each design are maintained in inventory at any given time to shorten the length of time it takes to realize a return on the investment.
